NAME: Genesis Rhapsodos「ジェネシス・ラプソードス」

VERSION: Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core (shortly after this scene)

SEXUALITY:
Bisexual; Genesis is open to all possibilities and doesn’t have a preference for gender. However, it should be noted that he is a rather difficult individual to please. His pride in himself also extends into how he judges others, and of course should he find himself in a romantic or sexual situation, the other individual would have to be worthy of his presence yet attractive enough to stand on their own.

SPECIES:
Human in appearance, though his body has been tainted due to being a part of “Project G. His genome was tampered with in an attempt to create an ultimate being, though he was ultimately deemed a failure. Consequently, after what should have been minor injuries, his recovery never came, and instead his form began to degrade. The very unique appendage of a single black wing on his left side appeared, prompting him to deem himself as a “monster”. Upon his arrival in the RP, he will have been wiped clean of his physical condition and will not show any signs of deterioration.

PERSONALITY:
To know the inner workings of SOLDIER, 1st Class Genesis Rhapsodos is to embrace an individual who has been graced with a touch of madness, adoration to the point of twistedly tragic obsession, and a fallen angel who teeters between extreme passion and lethally haughty ennui.

Before the discovery that spawned a spiraling descent into madness, Genesis was but a dreamer—and he aspired to achieve the greatness of a SOLDIER, 1st class, while he worked among the lands of Banora. It is clear that he was a hard-worker, as he won a national-level award for his work with the Banora “stupid apples”, as they are fondly called. It is revealed that his drive and consequent success comes from this ambition to be just like his idol—the great General Sephiroth.

After he and best friend Angeal Hewley make it to the ranks of 1st, it seems that Genesis is overtaken by a paradoxical inner turmoil—the desire to become a new “hero”, and the struggle to balance that between his rival and newfound friend in the General.

This turmoil spawns two very distinct parts of his personality. The largest portion of him has succumbed to obsession, envy, pride, and been just as degraded as his physical form. Obsession stems from his love of the epic poem LOVELESS, and he has modeled his own life, experiences, and the people in it to fit the parts of the unfinished tragedy. The strongest desire Genesis seems to have is to strive to become the “hero”—a position that, in his mind, has always been stolen by Sephiroth. Despite their close friendship, it might be wondered if that was ever sincere, as the SOLDIER seems solely focused on their relationship as a rivalry and nothing more as things begin to progress.

Desperately seeking the “Gift of the Goddess” has not been so kind to the male either. It cannot be denied that he is passionate and susceptible to haughtiness almost as a defense mechanism to preserve what he would like to think as superiority, and consequently the “cold” portion of his personality becomes visible. To others who are below him, he might treat them as though they are mere insects not even worth the grace of his presence. Apathy goes hand in hand with such arrogance, and let’s be honest—it isn’t terribly easy to focus on the problems or events of another’s life especially when one has such an existence as Genesis.

Once the deterioration overtook his body, it took the same toll on his mental stability as well. Genesis is much more prone to living in his own little fantasy, finely tuned to LOVELESS of course. The constant needle of being a failure has driven him to the point of complete disregard for majority of his actions—even those of self-destruct that place people he once cared for in danger.

Overall, he is a highly unstable individual whose existence is drenched in tragedy and misfortune. Any greatness that patience and determination may have brought has been so thoroughly overshadowed by wickedness and a downfall into sin.

ABILITIES & STRENGTHS:
Genesis’ pride and ranking as a 1st class SOLDIER are unfounded claims by any means. Despite his lithe, leaner physical appearance, Genesis is extremely agile and strong enough to wield his weapon of choice—a broadsword that seems to be modeled after a rapier.

He also has the ability to use several fire-based techniques without the apparent aid of materia. He is known to use several summons when in a hurry, and when utilized, his sword illuminates with ancient looking text, almost like a rune.

Genesis also possesses a sharp wit and the cunning necessary to plot his revenge no matter what the cost. The deterioration of his mind has eroded any sort of remorse or guilt that may have held him back previously, and this negligent trait can be considered an advantage.

WEAKNESSES:
The most obvious weakness previously was his physical deterioration. Despite his strength and finely tuned techniques, small injuries and any sort of strenuous activity became a chore, and highly exerting. The long-term effects of this may be gone when in Nuadoria, but the mental aspects are still very clearly burned into his being.

When pushed enough, Genesis also tends to have a temper that leads him into doing something rash—the perfect example being his duel against Sephiroth. It should be noted that when his emotions slip, his wing has a tendency to spring lose, causing him further pain. His inspiration is both a gift and a curse.

Speaking of “Gifts”, the seemingly elusive Gift of the Goddess has also taken a heavy toll on his mentality. Both that and his unsuccessfulness to become a hero have pushed him into a mindset that is all his own, and can be thought of as sometimes “loopy” or crazy. At the very least, Genesis makes it look rather classy, though perhaps that is more of a negative advantage than anything else.
